Playing Podcasts

BeyondPod maintains a single playlist of episodes that are enqueued for playback (a playback queue). By default BeyondPod automatically generates a fresh playlist every time you select a new episode to play (unless selected episode is already on the playlist). The playlist starts with selected episode and includes all episodes after it.

If you prefer to manually mange your playlist, you can configure BeyondPod to always append selected episode to the end of the existing playlist. (To enable, go to: Menu > More > Settings > Playlist and Widget Settings and un-check "Automatic Playlist").

You can add any episode to the playlist - use "add to playlist" button or long press on the episode and select "Add to Playlist" from the menu.

During playback, you can use the transport buttons to skip forth and back a predetermined amount of time within the current podcast. You can configure the skip intervals using the Player Settings. There is also a convenient button that lets you skip directly to the end of the podcast from any point in the podcast. (Useful if you decide that the rest of the episode is not interesting and you want to move to the next one).

By default played episodes remain in the playlist, but you can control what happens when episode finishes playing (nothing, play next, delete and play next) using Menu > More > Settings > Player Settings > After Playing.

Another way to fill your playlist with episodes is to use "SmartPlay". SmartPlay lets you define a set of simple rules that automatically add episodes to your playlist. You can define rules like: "First play the two newest episodes for feed A, Then play the oldest 1 episode of feed B, Then play newest 3 episodes of category X, etc.".
To set your rules, use the SmartPlay editor accessible using Menu > More > Settings > Playlist and Widget Settings > Configure SmartPlay.
Once the rules are set, at any time, you can build a fresh playlist using Menu > Play > Start SmartPlay - this will clear your current playlist and generate a fresh one using the latest available episodes on the device. You can also configure SmartPlay to be rebuilt automatically when new episodes are downloaded or when the current playlist ends.
