Google Reader Integration

BeyondPod can import feed subscriptions from Google Reader. This provides a convenient way to manage your feed subscriptions on your desktop and then import them to your device. You can also use the Reader's Feed and Podcast Search to find and subscribe to feeds you may be interested.

To import your Reader feeds, use Add Feed button located in the bottom right of the Feeds Screen and then pick Import from Google Reader.

With BeyondPod you can subscribe to individual Reader feeds or to aggregated feeds comprised on all new posts across all feeds in a given Reader folder. You can find the aggregated feeds as import choices in "My Google Items" or as "All new items in..." inside each folder on the Google Import list.

In order to use Google Reader integration, you must have a Google Reader Account (it is free from http://reader.google.com) When importing feeds from Reader, you must provide your Reader credentials. BeyondPod supports 2 ways of login to Google Reader. You can pick an existing device account or manually enter user name and password. If you manually enter a user name and password, BeyondPod will log you in and keep you logged in for about 2 weeks (this policy is set by Google). Once the login expires, you will have to login again. If you select an existing device account BeyondPod can automate the login process and you don't have to periodically re-login. If your device supports it, we recommend always using a device account. You can change what account is used by BeyondPod in: Menu > More > Import and Export Feeds. If you use a different account for Reader (than the one already set on the device), you can add extra Google Account to your device using device's Accounts settings.

When synchronizing with Reader, BeyondPod recognizes "Read" and "Starred" items and will automatically "push" any status changes back to Google Reader (the push will occur about 15 minutes after you mark the last item as Read or Starred).
When there are pending changes that were are not yet "pushed" to Reader, the feed "Refresh" button (on the right side of the feed header when looking at the feed content) will have a small "flash" icon inside. Tapping on the refresh button will immediately push all pending changes across all feeds back to Reader.

All feeds that are loaded from Google Reader pass thru a sophisticated feed processing engine that fixes most issues and incompatibilities in the format of the original feed. If you find a feed that has problems loading in BeyondPod directly, subscribing to that feed in Reader and Importing it to BeyondPod usually makes the feed load correctly.

You can request any existing feed to be loaded from Google reader by checking "Load from Google Reader" check box in the feed properties. Requesting a feed from Reader will load the content of the feed but will currently NOT automatically subscribe you to the feed in Reader. In this case all your items will come as "Read" until you subscribe to the feed in Reader. To subscribe to the feed in Reader from BeyondPod, scroll to the bottom of the feed and use "Subscribe in Reader" link.
