This is a Development BETA build! It contains new features and bug fixes that we
are planning for the next public release.
We try to keep our BETA builds as stable as possible (this is
what we use daily in our personal devices). Keep in mind that not all features are
completely tested yet and some unexpected results or crashes may still occur!
This is the BETA for the
Tablet version of BeyondPod and will install
ONLY
on Android Tablets running Android 3.0 or later. (BETA for the Phone version is
available here)
What is new in this version
- Improved support for Ice Cream sandwich tablets.
- New setting to "auto-hide" the player controls when the playlist is empty. The
setting is OFF by default and can be changed in "Player Settings" > "Auto-Hide
Player".
- Several bug fixes
To give this DEVELOPMENT beta a try, download the .apk file below directly to your
device. Once the file is downloaded, you can click on it in the download list to
install.
- 2.90.20
- "Popular Feeds and Podcasts" option in "Add Feed" dialog now uses a new User interface
that makes it easier to discover popular audio/video podcasts for different categories

- 2.90.14
- Several bug fixes
- 2.90.13
- Updated the default set of sample feeds that appears after a fresh install.
- 2.90.12
- Added a better support for handling feeds that have document attachments (PDF,
DOC, XLS and PPT). They can now be downloaded and viewed using any document viewer
application that is installed on the device.
- Added (an experimental) feature that allows ignoring of the "Read" status of posts
that are synced with Goggle Reader. (This is useful if you often work with old posts
that Reader explicitly considers "Read"). The new setting is called "Ignore Reader
'Read' Status" and is located in BeyondPod's Advanced settings (accessible by a
long press on the version line in 'About BeyondPod' screen)
- Updated French, Finnish and Russian translations to the latest versions from Crowdin.
(Translators: If you find that anything is off, let me know - We had to manually
merge some Crowdin files and this could have affected the final result.)
- Updated main application icon.
- 2.90.10
- Improved handling of Right-To-Left languages when the feed is synced with Google
Reader.
- Added a better handling for podcasts that omit or specify invalid mime type for
their episodes.
- 2.90.8

the current video episode completes, BeyondPod will now always play the next episode
regardless of the episode content type - it will switch automatically to the audio
or video player as required.
- Several fixes to the Drag and Drop logic used to rearrange the playlist and categories.
- Fixes for a bug that occasionally would not show all latest feed posts in the
Feed Content view.
- Updated all translations to the latest versions.

translations.
- Bug Fixes
- 2.90.1
- Added a new setting that allows video playback to continue when the screen is
manually turned off. The new settings is called "Pause Video on Screen Off" (located
in the "Player settings"). For compatibility with existing behavior, the setting
is ON by default (video will be paused on screen off).
- Enhancements to Video Playlist handling. Added a new option that allows videos
to be automatically included in the playlist the same way audio episodes are (for
example when using a SmartPlay or when selecting them from "My Episodes View").
The setting is called "Allow Videos in Playlist" and is currently "off" by default.
You can turn it on in the "Playlist and Widget" settings. Keep in mind that when
this feature is enabled it will no longer be possible to play the audio portion
of videos in the audio player. (You can turn OFF "Pause Video on Screen Off" as
described above and still "listen" to the audio portion of the video).
- Added initial support for Google TV. For the most part Google TV the functionality
is the same as the standard tablet version, except that is optimized for consuming
audio/video content (vs. reading text posts). Even if you don't have a Google TV
you can still configure BeyondPod to operate in Google TV mode and try the User
Interface changes - you may find that Google TV mode is better suited for the way
you use BeyondPod. To switch back and forth between the Tablet and Google TV mode,
go to BeyondPod's 'Advanced Settings (Menu > More > About BeyondPod > long
press on the version line > Advanced Settings) and select Google TV in the "UI
Optimization" setting (selecting Automatic will return back the Tablet mode).
- 2.80.11
- Improvements to the BeyondPod's podcast search engine.
- 2.80.10
- New "Manual Episode Cleanup" feature makes it easier to delete existing episodes
in bulk. It allows you to manually multi-select episodes and also provides convenient
"automatic selection" modes ("Select Largest 3", "Select Oldest 3" and "Select All").
Episode cleanup can be accessed by using "Menu > Episode Cleanup" in the My Episodes
tab.
- When adding new feeds, and the feed URL is invalid, BeyondPod will now use more
sophisticated logic to try and guess the actual correct podcast URL. For many feeds,
this new logic allows you to use iTunes podcast web site (http://itunes.apple.com/us/genre/podcasts)
on your PC or directly on the mobile device, find a podcast you like, enter the
iTunes specific feed URL in BeyondPod. BeyondPod will try to find the URL of the
original publisher and subscribe to it directly. Also for many feeds BeyondPod will
be able to guess the podcast URL if you enter the URL of the podcast's web site.
- Post Content View now has a dedicated toolbar button that open the post web site
in an external browser
- 2.80.9
- BeyondPod player now leaves the notification bar icon even when paused. This makes
it easy to resume playback without having to open the main BeyondPod window.
- When BeyondPod updates a feed and the updated content happens to be invalid, the
"last known good" cache of the feed is now used until a valid copy is downloaded.
- BeyondPod now temporary "locks" the current episode in the player so that it is
not be automatically deleted during automatic “update and download” cleanup.
- Added a setting that controls if the current episode is kept in the playlist during
automatic SmaprtPlay rebuild at the end of download. The new setting is called "Keep
Current Episode" and is located in Playlist and Widget Settings. (The default is
to keep the current episode.)
- 2.80.8
- Changed the Application Icon to better differentiate the Tablet form the Phone
version
- Added Final Versions of the French and Finnish translations.
- Improvements to the screen layout on 7" Honeycomb tablets
- Several small bug fixes.
- 2.80.6
- Bug fixes.
- 2.80.5
- In Feed Post View, next/previous post can be now switched by flinging left or
right. (The old method of switching post using the page margins is no longer supported)
- Fixed several small bugs in the way end-of-playlist is handled
- Refactored large portion of text content through the product to prepare it for
translation to different languages. (If you are interested in helping translate
BeyondPod to your language, please post on the support forum or send an e-mail to
support AT beyondpod.mobi).
- 2.80.3
- Added a setting that allows publishing of BeyondPod's playlist to (most) external
audio players. The setting is "off" by default and is located in Settings >
Playlist and Widget Settings > Share Playlist.
- Small changes to Feed Content View to improve consistency. Now "Streamed" episodes
have the same Play/Delete buttons as "Downloaded" episodes. Also all local episodes
now show the episode total time (if available) and their "media type" icons (audio,
video or image) are slightly brighter to help distinguish them from the other episodes
in the feed.
- 2.80.2
- Several enhancements to the podcast download engine to better support downloading
episodes in order. In the feed settings, "Feed Podcast Episodes" drop down now has
additional options to Download/Stream Episodes in Order. When downloading/streaming
in order, BeyondPod will download selected number of episodes starting from the
oldest available and move towards the most recent. New episodes will be downloaded
only when you "make space" for them (by deleting some of the already downloaded
episodes for the feed). Also when set to download in order, the sort order of the
posts and episodes is automatically set to "oldest-first".
- Added a setting that will automatically rebuild the SmartPlaylist when new episodes
are downloaded. The setting is "off" by default and is located in Settings >
Playlist and Widget Settings > Auto Rebuild SmartPlay. (Generally SmartPlay
will be rebuilt immediately after a new episode is downloaded unless the player
is currently playing, in which case it will be rebuild after the end of the currently
playing episode.)
- Added more options for the number of episodes to play in the SmartPlay rules.
- Added a watchdog to monitor and prevent downloads for some rare cases where mobile
data can be used while "Use Mobile Data" is disabled in BeyondPod settings. (On
some devices, for a short period of time after switching from WiFi to Mobile connection,
the network connection type is reported incorrectly and this can occasionally allow
unintended data transfer to occur over the mobile data connection.)
- BeyondPod now broadcasts a custom Android intent on each Play/Pause. This intent
enables third party applications (like widgets or tasker) to monitor BeyondPod's
Play/Pause state. More information is available in
this Knowledge Base Article
