This is a Development BETA build! It contains new features and bug fixes that we
are planning for the next public release.
We try to keep our BETA builds as stable as possible (this is
what we use daily in our personal devices). Keep in mind that not all features are
completely tested yet and some unexpected results or crashes may still occur!
This is BETA for the
Phone version of BeyondPod and will install on any Android
device running Android 2.1 or later. (BETA for the Honeycomb Tablet version is
available here).
What is new in this version
You can get the latest PUBLIC version from
Android Market.
To give the DEVELOPMENT beta a try, download the .apk file below directly to your
device. Once the file is downloaded, you can click on it in the download list to
install.
- 3.0.13
- Small improvement to the "enhanced" player notification - it now has a full set of
transport buttons (in place of the episode name).
- 3.0.12
- You can now ignore feed episodes based on their type (file extension). For example
if some of your feeds mix audio episodes with images or video, you can ignore images
or videos and leave only the audio episodes. Episode filtering is configured globally
for all feeds using the existing "Hide Unsupported Media" setting located in the
Advanced settings (Menu > More > Settings > Menu > Advanced Settings). Keep in mind
that the filter is "inclusive" - once enabled, it will allow only file types (identified
by their extension) that are listed in "Supported File Types" setting. The same
filter is also used to filter out by file type in virtual feeds.
- If you have a device running Android 4.0 (Ice-cream Sandwich) you can try the
new (experimental) player notification. It adds a play/pause/skip controls to the
player notification in the notification try. To enable it, go to Advanced Settings
(see above) and check "Enhanced Notification". (This is the same notification we
had in the tablet version for a while.)
- 3.0.10
- Several enhancements to Feed Content View. Added a small icon indicating where
to press to see episode notes. For people that often check episode notes on this
screen, now there is a new "Read" optimized mode that uses the entire width of the
text to open episode notes (playback is started by tapping on the icon). To enable
"Read" optimization use: Menu > More > Settings > Menu > Advanced Settings > "Optimize
for Reading"
- New setting to automatically clean all (completely) played episodes from the playlist.
To enable use: Menu > More > Settings > Menu > Advanced Settings > "Remove Played
from Playlist".
- New setting to keep the current episode when clearing the playlist. To enable
use: Menu > More > Settings > Menu > Advanced Settings > "Keep Current Episode".
(this setting was introduced earlier but had a complicated way to enable it).
- Added ability to pause playback when the device power is disconnected (useful
to pause when engine ignition is turned off). To enable use: Menu > More > Settings
> Player Settings > Pause on Power Disconnect.
- Added an easier way to Add/Remove episode from playlist when looking at episode's
notes. Use: Menu > Add/Remove from playlist.
- New setting to enable Presto only for feeds that are explicitly configured to
play at higher/lower speeds. To enable, use Menu > More Settings > Player Settings
> Player Plug-in settings > Use only if Configured. (To configure a feed to play
at higher speed, open the feed, then Menu > Edit Feed > More Settings > Preferred
Playback Speed).
- 3.0.9
- Enhancements to Feed Content View - it now has full featured player attached to
the right side of the view (the same way as the main window). Also the title bar
can be used to quickly switch between the feeds in the current category.
- Added a new setting that allows you to enable the 2.0 style of playlist generation
(where selecting an episode would create a fresh playlist containing selected episode
and all episodes after it). The new setting is called "Automatic Playlist" and is
available in Playlist and Widget Settings.
- A couple of bug Fixes
- 3.0.8
- Bug Fixes
- 3.0.7
- Bug Fixes
- 3.0.6
- Fixed several problems with BeyondPod screens not displaying correctly on Galaxy
Note phones.
- Small enhancements to sleep timer functionality. Player > Setting > Custom Sleep
Timeout now allows you to also define what sleep options are available in the sleep
popup menu. (For example entering 45-10-20-30 will set the default sleep interval
to 45 minutes with 10,20 and 30 available as options on the pop-up menu.)
- 3.0.5
- Improved "Feed Preview". When searching or browsing BeyondPod's feed catalog,
the "Preview" button now provides an easy and comfortable way to preview any episode
in the feed before subscribing to it.
- 3.0.4
- New Backup and Restore functionality. You can now create a single backup file
containing all BeyondPod settings, history and feed subscriptions. Backup files
can be used to restore the same device or configure different device with the same
feeds and settings. Backups can be easily shared across devices using DropBox -
you can share to DropBox from BeyondPod and restore directly from DropBox. (This
is the first phase of the cross-device syncing functionality that we will be introducing
in the future.) Backup and restore is accessible via Settings > Backup and Restore
- German Language Support - BeyondPod UI now has an official German translation.
We will appreciate any feedback on the translations (if you happen to use German
locale on your device)
- Added show episode notes shortcut (tap on the right side of the description episode
- right above the episode date) to Episodes and Playlist screens
- New icon to indicate "sleep-to-end" setting (replacing the ...)
- 3.0.3
- The main BeyondPod screen now contains only 3 views: Feeds, My Episodes and Player.
As before you can slide left/right between the views or select them directly using
the title bar buttons.
- "Categories List", "Feed Content List" (the screen with Download/Play buttons)
and the "Playlist" now open into separate windows and can be accessed directly from
multiple places.
- On both "Feeds" and "My Episodes" views, the current category can now be easily
selected using (a GMail style) drop down located on the title bar.
- For podcast feeds, the "Feed Content View" was redesigned to make it easier to
download and play feed's' episodes. It now shows all feed episodes (including orphaned/archived)
in a single list. The list of feed episodes can be easily filtered to show only
the episodes you are interested at the moment (for example All, Downloaded, Unread
etc). We also slightly changed the actions that can be applied to each episode.
Selecting an episode itself will now add it to the playlist and start playback.
(To display episode notes now requires a long press of the episode). There is now
a direct way to add/remove any episode from a playlist.
(For text-only feeds the functionality of this screen remains mostly unchanged).
- "My Episodes" view was updated to allow easier filtering of episodes (for example:
Audio, Video, Downloaded, Unfinished etc.) When sorting "By Date", episode list
is now split into "time buckets" (Today, This Week, Last Week etc.) that make it
easier to see downloaded episodes over time. We also added a way to add/remove multiple
episodes to the playlist (similar to the existing "Episode Cleanup" functionality).
- The Playlist is now also moved to a new window and can be accessed directly from
several screens. We also added a way to quickly "fill-in" the playlist with latest
audio/video episodes and the ability to move episodes to the top or bottom of the
playlist.
- The Player screen received a slight change where the "playlist drawer" is now
replaced by a single "Open Playlist" button (opening the Playlist in a new window).
- Many improvements to the playlist with the ability to apply actions to multiple
episodes at the same time (for example add, remove, move to top/bottom etc.).
- Feed Import screen received several enhancements to allow importing multiple items
at once and easier creation of new categories during import.
- Improved "Sleep" configuration with the ability to set the sleep interval until
the end of the current episode. You can also just tap on the sleep icon in the player
to easily adjust the sleep interval.
- Bug Fixes.
